Carolyn Shoemaker

As a ceramic artist, Carolyn Shoemaker likes to import ideas and enrgy from the world of contemporary art. She believes the secret of a good commission is a good design, and that has to do with light, clarity and the choice of materials.

The challenge of one-of-a-kind and large scale works excites Carolyn, who designed and built her own home and pottery studio in Bonne Bay.

She works with local earthenware clay to create pieces like this ceramic mural produced on commission for the province of Newfoundland and installed in the Confederation Building Annex, St. John's.
