About the Contest...
The Lions International Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people an opportunity to express their feelings about peace. Since then, millions of students from over 60 countries have participated in the annual contest.A NEW THEME IS ANNOUNCED EACH YEAR
"NEW BEGINNING FOR PEACE 1998-99"
The contest is open to young people worldwide, ages 11 to 13 years of age on JANUARY 10, 2000. However, the contest must be sponsored by a Lions club in a school or with an organized, sponsored youth group (such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA programs, or Parks Department.)
One grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners are chosen during the international finalist judging. The GRAND PRIZE WINNER receives US$2,500 a plaque and a trip for the artist and two family members to attend the awards ceremony at the Lions International Convention in Hawaii. The MERIT AWARD WINNERS receive US$500 and a framed certificate. The clubs and districts also give money prizes and certificates prizes in the course of the early rounds of competition.
In 1998 in honor of the Tenth Anniversary, ten grand prize winners were given trips to Birmingham, England where they met Lions from all over the World.
