The longest-running initiative under the Lions Youth Outreach program is Lions-Quest, a drug abuse prevention and life-skills program presentedby Lions Clubs International and Quest-International since 1984. The tri-level,school-based curricula is designed to help young people acquire the skillsand self confidence necessary to make healthy, positive personal decisionsand to resist negative influences such as drugs and gangs. Violence preventioncomponents also exist for each Lions-Quest program.
Skills for Growing: Children in kindergarten through fifth gradelearn effective thinking and social skills that lead to positive behaviorand strong character. Emphasis is placed on the role of family, school andcommunity in the development of a child's decision-making process.
Skills for Adolescence: Currently the world's most widely useddrug abuse prevention and life-skills curriculum, this program encouragesyoung people, ages 10-14, to say no to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs,by emphasizing self-discipline, good judgement, responsibility and goal-setting.
Skills for Action: Personal and social responsibility are thefocal points of this program for students ages 14-19. By taking part inservice-learning projects, participants learn life skills that include interpersonalcommunication, cooperation, proactive learning and thoughtful citizenship.
