ICEBERGS

ICEBERGS

Icebergs, thousands of years old, are frequently sighted during the summer months in the waters surrounding Change Islands. Often times as many as 40 'bergs' may be sighted at any one time in 'Iceberg Alley'. Your tour will include many great opportunities to view and photograph these icebergs. The icebergs that are calved from the glaciers of Greenland drift into Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea and then will follow the Labrador Current until south of the Grand Banks where they encounter the Gulf Stream and eventually melt.
Large Icebergs can tower from 45 to more than 75 meters (150-more than 240 ft) and are considered to be 7-8 times larger under water than what is visible above water.
