A WUNDERFUL BAD BACK

There is something we all do well in Newfoundland and that is, we use certain terminology in our everyday work outside and apply to our life indoors, or should we say our life at home.

Visiting Catalina about six or seven years ago, I met the Angelican priest who told me a very funny story about one of his parishioners.

He was called to visit a lady who had had a bad fall and in doing so injured her back. It resulted in her having to stay in bed for several months.

After two months, he was making his regular call, and was surprised to find her downstairs in the kitchen. Well he told her how happy he was to find her so much improved, and then remarked, "The next thing we'll be seeing you in church," and she replied, "No Riverend no. I don't t'ink so cuz me back eh's wunderful, wunderful bad. I git's in d'bid an' I can't turn h'over. I 'aves to git out of bid, go down along d'side of 'n, go cross d'h'end and git in d'hudder side."

The reverend's comment then was, "I s'pose your husband has to do the same thing?"

"No zir no. Eh juss sheaves astern."
