FALSE ALARMS

Over in the area of Conception Bay, a new fire engine had been bought by the local Municipal Council. Well, many people turned out to see the new engine and just about everyone admired it and many comments were made. One very comical fella came along and remarked, "It won't take many fires to pay fer she, will 'ee b'y."

One big problem was presenting itself to the council and that was what they were going to do with the old fire engine? It was decided to have a special meeting on this subject.

The meeting was held and many suggestions were made. On the council was one intelligent fellow from Upper Island Cove and everyone was waiting to hear his pronouncement. At last Uncle Charlie got to his feet and started in his usual slow but definitely Island Cove accent. "Mr. Chairman, I'd loike to make a proposal." The chairman said, "Uncle Charlie, will you putt'n in d'farm of a motion?" Uncle Charlie them replied, "If dat,s what you wunt, I'll putt'n in d'farm of a motion. I moves zir, we keeps 'er and uses ' er for false alarms."
