Dave Buckingham told me a true story about when he was
attending the Memorial University.
He told me that in the class were two or three Roman Catholic
sisters. They were easily distinguishable by their traditional long
black dresses and shawls and other pieces of the habit.
In the middle of the semester an edict had been published by
the Pope that allowed the sisters to discard their traditional dress
and wear skirts and blouses with kerchiefs on their heads. The
sisters in the class immediately adopted the new dress and some
in the class did not recognize those new students.
One afternoon a male friend of Dave's was glancing around the
room and as he looked backwards he recognized Sister Mary
Acquin for the first time. He kept looking back at her and each
time looked down at her legs. Sister caught him a couple of times
when he looked at her and when she could stand it no longer
she burst forth with a real class stopper, including the lecturing
professor, and this is what she said, "WHAT DID YOU THINK I
HAD UNDER THEM LONG DRESSES...TWO WHEELS?" |
