David Hoddinott
Dave Hoddinott was born in St. John's, NF in 1954.
He has been an Architectural Draftsman and illustrator
for the past 20 years. Dave has studied water colour
and Acrylic painting through various workshops and the
Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has also
learned print making at St. Michael's Printshop in St.
John's.
He believes that an artist can only be taught the basics,
after which each individual must perceive and tone their
own style and techniques, which he does on a continual
basis. This is exemplified by the wide range of mediums
which he likes to work with including watercolour,
acrylics, coloured pencils and etching.
Dave has exhibited in many group shows since 1981 when he
seriously started pursuing his artwork. He presented his
first solo show in 1992 and was one of eight artists who
sent a group exhibition to Vancouver in 1993 sponsored by
the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 1996 he was awarded
firstplace in the Senior Arts Division of the Arts and
Letters competition, sponsored by the Government of
Newfoundland and Labrador. His work is in numerous private
and corporate collections including the Bank of Montreal
and the Bank of Nova Scotia.
Because of the high demand for his artwork he has published
three limited edition offset lithographs of his acrylic
paintings. These are being sold through galleries all
across Newfoundland and several on the Mainland.
He is past president of the Art Association of
Newfoundland and Labrador, and is a member of VANL (Visual
Artist's of Newfoundland and Labrador), The Canadian Artist's
Representation and St. Michael's Printshop. He paints full
time from his home studio where he also resides with his wife
and two daughters.
