The J&B is a Fisherman's schooner, gaff-rigged with eight sails. She was built in historic Trinity by master builder Henry Vokey, who named the vessel after his daughters Jane, Josephine, Bonnie, and Bernice. The J&B is fully refurbished with modern conveniences and upgraded to Canadian Coast Guard standards.

Visit us at Pier 6 in St. John's Harbour, and take advantage of the opportunity to relive the traditional sailing experience of Newfoundland fishermen. The crew will guide you on an interpretive tour, including the history of St. John's Harbour. You'll gain special historical insights into daily life aboard the schooners which carried fishermen to and from the Grand Banks for 200 years.

For information on sailing times and charters check our fee schedule, call Schooner Tours at 709-753-SAIL (7245), or visit our store at the Pier 6.

Special Events

This year, the J&B will be representing St. John's and Newfoundland at the gathering of Tall Ships and other festivities at Louisbourg, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia). The city is sponsoring a formal sendoff on Sunday, July 23rd. We'll be back in St. John's for the weekend of August 4-7 with a dozen Tall Ships, including the HMS Rose, the Providence, and the Gazela. (The later ship used to visit frequently as part of the Portuguese White Fleet, and is the last of the original square-riggers, having been built in 1873!)

Traditional Sailing Resources on the World Wide Web

The J&B's crew is rather fond of sea songs. If you're similarly inclined, check out our shantyman Andrew Draskoy's collection of shanty and sea song lyrics.
