Seamen's Museum
The Southern Newfoundland Seamen's Museum at Grand Bank is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Burin Peninsula. During the past several years, approximately 12,500 visitors annually have visited the museum. The building was originally the
Yugoslav pavilion at Expo '67 in Montreal. It was moved to Grand bank and reconstructed as a memorial to the many Newfoundlanders who lost their lives at sea. Officially opened in September of 1971, the building (resembling the sails of a schooner) hous
es hundreds of artifacts. From ship models to photographs and documents, the exhibits chronicle the ear of the Grand Banks fishing schooners.
The museum is open year round. During the summer months of July and August, visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday - September to June, visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday
to Friday and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Closed on statutory holidays.
