St. John's Walking Tour

Though Water Street like most North American urban centres has been polluted with ugly high rises such as the Scotia Center and Atlantic Place, it is still possible to see some of the character of the city through the remaining old properties.

The Courthouse
The Court House is a wonderful old stone building which was cleaned up a few years ago to great effect.
Next to the Court House is Bianca's, a delightful restaurant owned and operated by Bulgarians who have adopted St. John's as their own. If you are looking for a wonderful meal during your stay in St. John's try Bianca's.
On the opposite side of Water Street is an old property which for years was known by its department store occupant- The London, New York and Paris- which was shortened to the London. It now houses Woof Design, the Newfoundland Weavery and a second hand store. The London Photo

Continuing down Water Street as you head West, you will come across a side street on your right behind Nonia, the handcraft store, which is called George Street.
George Street runs for a couple of blocks and is the centre of St. John's active nightlife. The Sundance Saloon, the Cornerstone, The Edge, Trapper John's, and The Fat Cat are among the possible stops for a quick feed and a few ales.
