Churchill Falls, Labrador Labrador has 29,000 residents on 294,330 square kilometres of land. If you want some elbow Vast wilderness pocketed by small modern communities mark this part of the province. room this is the place.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay has been a low level flight training facility for a number of governments as well as a major distribution centre for the north. In late July it is the site of the Labrador Canoe Regatta, a weekend of music, song, dance, races and food. In early March its the winter carnival with snow sculptures and more partying.

At Churchill Falls there is a modern town with services, accommodations and interesting activities and attractions. At this point in the Churchill river the waters drop some 300 metres over a 32 kilometre span. The perfect spot for one of the worlds largest hydroelectric generating stations, that produce 5,225

The mining towns of Labrador City and Wabush lie to the west of Churchill Falls. the largest open pit ore mining, concentrate and pelletizing operation in North America has grown since 1958. Tours of the mine are available by special arrangement. The town's first bank has become their first museum- the Height of Land Heritage Centre.

Downhill and cross-country skiing are readily at hand at the Smokey Mountain Alpine Ski Club and the Menihek Nordic Ski Club. The latter has twice hosted World Cup ski events as their facilities are so good.

To get a good feel for the outdoors, Duley Lake Provincial Park is ten kilometres outside Labrador City. This 100 site camping park has swimming, boating, picnic spots and an excellent sandy beach. Another place is Grande Hermine Park located 33 kilometres from Wabush on Route 500, it has 75 landscaped sites with water hook ups, a beach, picnic facilities and boat rentals. The park features caribou moss and eskers throughout the site.
